How to remove the battery without triggering the factory alarm?

I am helping a friend change today starter. His car is stranded in a parking lot. I'm not used to working on cars with alarms. He said the last time he removed his battery replaced, the alarm began to sound. Is to replace starter (which I am very familiar with), I'll have to remove battery from vehicle. How do I keep the alarm ringing? The car is a 1998 Toyota Camry. I guess it has a battery backup, because he said it sounded when he removed the battery Main.

Find the fuse and remove. Or unscrew the head when the alarm of his power. It is usually the battery terminal.
