In military modernization and weapons?

I am moving from the Army Reserve on active duty after college, and thought of going into the infantry. I was wondering if you can modify your weapon issued with all accessories (optics, grips, lighting, etc.) if you do not wear issued as coins and MIL-SPEC gun met after the conversion (as personally buying appropriate gear to him). All details would be helpful, I feel a bit stupid to ask a CO about it. Thank you in advance.

you can as long it goes with the mission you are doing. If you want to record a Dvd Player to the weapon when not. j / k
