I try to be a road on horseback to recover form an ACL reconstruction and was looking to buy a bike from Fuji, Giant, and Cell. I was told that because I am heavy I need to be cautious regarding my set of wheels. Is this a real concern? What kind of bike should I buy? Which set wheel is strong enough?
Your weight is not so big that you need to worry. The wheels you have to worry about rider weight are for road bikes top level, and not those of entry and use of intermediate level. I once weighed as much as you did and never had a problem with my MA-2 rims Mavic. Right now I'm riding Mavic wheels Aksium and I think they easily support your weight. Your biggest problem your weight will be pinched. You must be careful in your choice of tires. You want a tire that has a high aspect ratio, the one with the greatest distance between the tread and the rim. Select this tire in the now fully inflated to the maximum pressure indicated on the side minimizes pinching. HTH
