How do I connect my camera Sony Handy-cam on my iMac? Is there something I should download?

I have not Tiger Leopard if that makes a difference … I tried Connecting the key to the iMac, but it will not show everything

Snowwillow is correct – But all Macs have a FireWire400 port – they have been standard for almost 10 years. The only exception is the new MacBook Air – no FireWire port. iMovieHD not recognize not even the USB is connected to transfer DV. You will need a 4-pin (camcorder DV port) to 6 pin (Mac Firewire400) Port Cable firewire. Firewire, DV IEEE 1394 and i.LINK are all the same. The USB connection is used by iPhoto for transferring still images from a memory card, Only … If your camcorder has this capability. If your camcorder is the hard disk or flash memory based, you will be using USB – but the camera must be mounted as any other mass storage device and you need to copy the files from the camcorder to the Mac … and Streamclip http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html used to convert the height of the compressed MPEG2 files into something iMovie can use. Once converted, you can import into iMovie. If you use a camcorder DVD Base is best to get a tray loading external DVD drive, such as LaCie http://www.lacie.com/us/products/range. htm? id = 10014 Finalize Disc in the camcorder, the camcorder out and put in the feeder tray – Never put a small or odd-sized disc into a slot loading – you will break the drive and scratch the disc. So you will need to download and install HandBrake http://handbrake.fr/ to remove the video from the DVD. After movie has been ripped, you can import into iMovie.
