How do I choose Rechargeable Batteries, what 2300 Mah Nimh mean?

I have Energizer Rechargeable batteries but I need more and they are too expensive. So are 2300 mAh AA Nimh Rechargeable Batteries supposed to be good also are 2700 mAh or better even if the price of those I found is almost double? And what does mAh mean?

mAh is an assessment of how much energy the batteries can hold (tank size gas is to use a car analogy). mAh stands for milliamp hours. If the rating is 2700 mAh, you can draw 100 milliamps for 27 hours, or 50 milliamps etc. for 54 hours, a larger number is better (but there could be some compromise to get the highest rating). I usually go for the higher number if cost is the same. I got lucky with a mark I found on ebay called Tenergy. NiMH describes the chemical composition of the battery ( know the type of battery technology is sprayed on). NiMH means Nickle Metal Hydride. To my ears, this is a new technology and improved with the nickel-cadmium technology. Nickle Cadmium NiCad means .. NiCad are less user friendly in my experience, have a lifetime much shorter. Lithium Ion is another Technology ………..
